The evening of Thursday, November 15, the Minnesota Justice Foundation will host its 30th anniversary celebration, at International Market Square in Minneapolis.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Phil Duran, President-elect of the Minnesota State Bar Association; Legal Director for OutFrontMN, Minnesota’s leading LGBT advocacy organization; and a founding member of the Lavender Bar Association.
Mr. Duran is well-known for his work on behalf of the state’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender citizens. His keynote will address the importance of diversity in legal practice and the accomplishments of LGBT advocates in the courtroom.
MJF also annually honors Minnesota legal professionals for their exemplary service to low-income clients. The following individuals will be recognized at MJF’s Anniversary Celebration:
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE: P. Kenneth Kohnstamm (Special Assistant Attorney General, MN Attorney General’s Office)
ADVOCATE: Marit Eriksmoen (Office Manager, Housing Preservation Project)
DIRECT LEGAL SERVICE: Susan Stokes (Executive Director, Farmers’ Legal Action Group)
PRIVATE PRACTICE: Michael Ponto (Partner, Faegre Baker Daniels)
Four law students, one from each Minnesota law school, will also receive awards. They are Carrie Briones (Hamline University School of Law), Steven Kool (University of St. Thomas School of Law), John Cetta (University of Minnesota Law School) and Grace Zaiman (William Mitchell College of Law).
A plated dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
