Hamline Law’s highly regarded Health Care Compliance Certificate program is going online and will now be available nationwide to a broad range of professionals. Until now, the program has only been available in the classroom, but the new iPad-based, online version of the program will help professionals across the country increase their value to employers by teaching them how to effectively navigate the complex maze of government laws and regulations.
“Health Care Compliance is one of the fastest growing career fields, requiring a sophisticated understanding of a complex regulatory environment,” said Barbara Colombo, a Senior Fellow in Hamline’s Health Law Institute, and director of the program. “Our program is one of only five accredited by the Compliance Certification Board, and the online version, which launches this June, is the only one built on cutting-edge technology that allows students to both learn directly from world-class professors and engage with colleagues anywhere they have an internet connection.”
The comprehensive curriculum provides a thorough examination of governing laws and gives students the tools to effectively address the operational realities of working as a compliance professional. It draws on an outstanding faculty specializing in law, ethics, regulatory enforcement, governance, billing and coding, audits and investigations, and health reform, among other areas. This extraordinary faculty is dedicated to preparing highly proficient compliance professionals and is the primary reason Hamline is consistently ranked among the nation’s top 20 health law programs.
Online Health Care Compliance students will earn the 12-credit Certificate over the course of just one year. The majority of their coursework will be completed online with an iPad 2 – provided by Hamline –fully loaded with a proprietary app and learning materials designed specifically for this program. But it won’t be all online. Students will begin their program with a four-day residential component on Hamline’s main Saint Paul campus, and it will culminate with students reuniting for a two-day capstone experience that includes a comprehensive, multifaceted simulation exercise to test operational and substantive concepts learned throughout the program. In between – all via iPad – students will take Health Care Compliance Laws and Regulations; HIPAA Privacy; Health Care Compliance Skills: Auditing, Investigating, and Reporting; and Governance and Ethics in Health Care Compliance.
“This Certificate is new in terms of how it is delivered to students,” said Colombo, “but the curriculum is well-established and proven highly effective. Now it will be available anywhere to professionals looking to deepen their knowledge and increase their marketability. And they’ll be able to complete it in a way that will better fit their already busy professional lives.”
