You’re working full-time. You have personal and professional obligations. And you’ve always wanted to earn a law degree because you know it will make you more marketable – either in your current field or in an exciting new legal career.
Students in Hamline's part-time program – one of only two American Bar Association (ABA) accredited weekend programs in the nation -- appreciate a flexible weekend format while learning from passionate professors who are experts in their fields. They enjoy the close camaraderie that develops in the smaller weekend classes, plus they receive all of the opportunities their full-time Hamline Law classmates enjoy, like our nationally recognized Institutes; our renowned experiential learning, study abroad, and research opportunities; and a supportive, student-centered learning environment.
Classes are taught Saturdays and Sundays during the day on our Saint Paul campus, and students typically complete the 88-credit program within four years. All first-year courses are taught by full-time Hamline Law professors. And, of course, student services are available during the weekend (as well as during the week). In addition, our comprehensive Academic Success Program will give you the tools to succeed in law school.
Weekend JD students typically take four courses at a time and should plan to be in class from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays. Weekend students follow the same academic calendar as full-time students, taking courses during the fall and spring semesters. Summer and January term courses are optional and will not speed up completion of the degree. Fall semester begins in mid-August and ends in early December; spring semester begins in mid-January and ends in early May. Weekend students who have flexible schedules may also choose to enroll in weekday courses after completing their foundational courses.
