Whether you are a prospective student, a current student, one of our alumni, or a member of the legal community, our site hosts information about the events, people and curriculum that will enable you to explore the Hamline University School of Law difference.
For almost 30 years, Hamline University School of Law has offered legal education that emphasizes functional skills blended with theoretical knowledge, an ethic of community service, and a commitment to social justice. Students find a contemporary, high-quality academic program that provides the opportunity to experience the practice of law while learning.
Programs of Study
The Hamline University School
of Law academic program provides a rich opportunity to individualize a
student’s study in the areas of law that matter most to each student.
The program is internationally known for the Dispute Resolution Institute,
ranked fourth in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, the growing
Health Law Center, and concentrations in Intellectual Property,
Business Representation, Children and the Law, International Law and
many others.
Hands-on experience is available in a wide variety of subjects through nine clinical programs and a practicum/externship program featuring seven practice areas. Clinics such as the Innocence Clinic, Small Business/Non-Profit Clinic, and the Child Advocacy Clinic offer sophisticated practice experience, often in areas that are not duplicated elsewhere. Through the practicum program, students receive one-on-one supervision while working in law offices, government agencies, or judicial chambers. These opportunities often define the careers of young lawyers and provide an important advantage in becoming an attorney.
A Diverse Student Body
The Hamline University
School of Law student body comprises a diversity of students, from
those just out of college to those returning to develop a
second-career, as well as a community from a wealth of ethnic and
religious backgrounds. This variety opens a breadth of perspectives and
experiences for all to draw on, and gives depth and richness to
learning. We attract students owning strong academic abilities, who
graduate with exemplary writing skills, excellent functional expertise,
and theoretical imagination.
