Susan H. Stephan '92 has joined BenePartum Law Group, P.A., as a shareholder and head of the firm's e-commerce practice. She focuses on legal challenges involving e-commerce and the Internet, as well as on general corporate legal matters. She also counsels clients regarding antitrust and business technology concerns. She currently chairs the Art & Entertainment Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and serves as Membership Chair for the Cyberspace Law Committee of the American Bar Association.
Dale O. Harris '93 has been accepted by Governor Tim Pawlenty as a finalist for a Sixth Judicial District trial court bench vacancy in the city of Duluth in St. Louis County. He is currently an assistant St. Louis County Attorney, a position he has held since 2004.
Ronald K. Gardner '94 has been named the Hamline University School of Law 2009 Distinguished Alumni. He has recently become a named partner of Dady & Garner, P.A.; on February 1st the firm will be changing its name to Dady & Gardner, P.A. He currently limits his practice to the representation of franchisees, dealers and distributors when they are in disputes with their franchisors, manufacturers and suppliers. He has been elected incoming Chair of the ABA Forum on Franchising, the country's leading group of Franchise attorneys, and is a member of the American, Minnesota, Hennepin County and Rice County Bar Associations. In addition to his upcoming chairmanship of the Forum on Franchising, he has served as Division Director of the Forum's Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Division, and Co-Chair of the Orlando Forum. He is also an active participant in the American Association of Franchisees and Dealers. Dan Lew '95 was recognized as one of the nation's Best Lawyers Under 40 by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association ("NAPABA"), and was also appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to serve on the Minnesota Criminal Rules of Procedure Committee for a four year term in November 2009.
Dan McIntosh '01 was just appointed as the Steele County Attorney on January 5, 2010. He has been with the office since December of 2001.
Sarah Evenson '02 was appointed earlier this year by Governor Tim Pawlenty to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice for a term of four years to serve on the board's legislative and complaint review committees.
Dan Gregerson '04 was recently voted in as a shareholder with the law firm of Gregerson, Rosow, Johnson & Nilan, LTD. He practices in the areas of surety, fidelity, insurance defense, mechanic's lien and business law.
Andrew Jackola '05 announced the opening of a new firm, Andrew T. Jackola, PLC, with offices in Oakdale and Hibbing, Minnesota. He worked previously as an attorney with the law firm of Mansfield, Tanick & Cohen in Minneapolis. His new practice focuses in the areas of civil litigation, employment and employee benefits law, business law, family law, criminal defense and estate planning.
Johanna R. Kirk '06 was named a shareholder at the Superior, Wisconsin firm of Knudson, Torvinen, Jones & Kirk, S.C. She joins two other Hamline J.D.'s as a partner, Kyle H. Torvinen '93 and Parrish J. Jones '05. The firm is a general practice firm, having provided legal services to the Duluth and Superior areas since 1892.
Jack P. Roberts '06 and Patricia J. Stotzheim '06, '91 CLA announce the opening of The Law Firm of Roberts & Stotzheim, PLLC. The firm's practice will focus on legal services for small businesses, commercial and residential real estate transactions, family law, estate planning, probate, and mediation services. Before opening the firm, Roberts was an associate at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. in Minneapolis, and Stotzheim was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Mary Yunker in Sherburne County. Vanessa Vogl '09 recently started a judicial clerkship at the MN Court of Appeals with the Honorable Gordon W. Shumaker.
OBITUARIES
Ted E. Sullivan '80, of Mendota Heights, passed away unexpectedly after a massive heart attack on December 15, 2009 at the age of 54. He was a shareholder in Lind Jensen Sullivan & Peterson, P.A. and an adjunct professor at Hamline Law School in the late ‘90s.
Scott G. Nichols '84, of St. Paul, lost his battle with cancer at age 57 on Friday, December 18 surrounded by family and friends. He was passionate about the outdoors and enjoyed canoeing on the Brule River, curling with his buddies, and spending time with his golden retrievers. He was a favorite great-uncle to many grandnephews and grandnieces, and he will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
