Expand Your Horizons This Summer

Consider the following new courses being offered by Hamline University School of Law, or a plethora of summer classes offered by our Dispute Resolution Institute and Health Law Institute.
Islamic Law
35 MN CLE credits have been approved, Event Code 132533
July 13-July 30, 4:15 to 7:30 p.m.
This course will:
- Cover the origins, history and basic concepts of Islamic law.
- Provide a basic introduction to the classical schools of jurisprudence and Islamic legal institutions.
- Explore Islamic law in areas including family law, inheritance and finance law.
Qadi (judge) Ahmad Natour, the faculty for this course, is President of the High Shari'a Court of Appeal in Israel, which is the highest Islamic court in the State of Israel. Qadi Natour has taught in the Hamline-Hebrew University Program on Law, Religion and Ethics, and is currently on the faculties of Tel Aviv University and American University in Washington, D.C. Qadi Natour was the first Muslim to receive an Interfaith Gold Medallion Award from the International Council of Christians and Jews.

Hamline University School of Law will host the 2009 Legal Scholarship for Equal Justice (LSEJ) CLE program on April 24, 2009 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. LSEJ is a project of the Minnesota Justice Foundation (MJF) designed to address broad legal issues of current importance to equal justice. Each of the four Minnesota law schools takes a turn to host an annual LSJE CLE program.
This year, topics will include:
- Income Discrimination in Rejection of Section 8 Housing Tenants
- Providing Effective Assistance of Counsel? Public Defenders in the Midst of Budget Cuts
- Family Law Reform: Problems in the Adversarial System and Alternative Models
- Passport for Civil Gideon: International Approaches to Providing Legal Services to the Poor
- Making the Case for Improving the Juvenile Expunement Process
There will be two concurrent sessions of presentations between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. Both will be held at Hamline's Law School, one in Room 105, and the other in Room 04.
4 CLE Credits will be requested for this program. There is no cost for the CLE opportunity, but if you plan to attend, please register with Sara at hamline@mnjustice.org.

Estelle Arnaud-Battandier joined the Consulate in 2004, first serving as assistant to the Deputy Cousul General, and then becoming Consular Affairs Officer a few months later. She has a background in business and marketing and worked for various companies around the world prior to joining the Consulate.
Please join your Section colleagues and our distinguished guests for an opportunity to learn about the wide variety of services offered at two local consulates, services that can help you provide the very best legal assistance to your clients. You will receive the most current information on available foreign document services, including types of documentation issued, as well as translation, verification/authentication, and replacement services.
You will learn about other Consulate services you can access to assist your clients and practice, many of which you may not have been utilizing, including the availability of legal opinions on questions pertaining to foreign law, and services provided to individuals being repatriated to their home country.
