Dean Jon Garon, author of Own It: The Law and Business Guide to Launching a New Business through Innovation, Exclusivity and Relevance will appear at Borders Express as part of the International Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.
A nationally recognized authority on intellectual property, Hamline University School of Law Dean Jon M. Garon will be appearing in Las Vegas to meet with technology and entertainment industry's greatest innovators on how to incorporate those innovations into their business plans.
Garon's latest work,Own It-The Law & Business Guide to Launching a New Business through Innovation, Exclusivity and Relevance, provides entrepreneurs the critical understanding of how to build long-lasting value for business through intellectual property and innovation. Garon offers advice on maximizing the opportunities for financing, planning, and competing in the e-commerce economy using common sense examples and the successful strategies of world-renowned companies.
"CES is a natural venue for discussing entrepreneurial strategies," explains Garon. "A walk through the booths at the event serves as a field trip regarding the best ways for companies to differentiate themselves from their competition as well as some of the most obvious examples of strategies destined to fail."
Garon will appear at Borders Express, 3200 Las Vegas Blvd South, from 6:00 - 7:30 on January 8, 2008.
In Own It, Garon first focuses on the legal and business attributes of exclusivity and relevance to highlight how best to build market share and maximize profitability. Chapters on relevance and innovation focus on how to identify the opportunities for changes in processes and markets. Garon contrasts market relevance from social relevance, explaining the strategies of creating and marketing must-have products. Using simple descriptions and numerous examples, he explains how intellectual property assets can improve customer satisfaction and maximize profits. Because the relationship between entrepreneur and investor is critical to success, Garon also shows how to align the interests of investors and employees with the entrepreneur. Together with nuts-and-bolts information of the start-up phase of business, Own It provides the keys to building an economically stable business and a secure financial future.
"I wish this book had been available when I launched my company 15 years ago," said Tom Salonek, founder and CEO of Intertech, a software training and enterprise web development company in St. Paul, Minnesota. "Particularly useful is the Intellectual Property Reference Guide, which carefully explains patent, copyright, trademark, publicity rights and similar tools in clear business language. For busy entrepreneurs, this book is a must because it focuses on what business leaders need to know."
