All 3Ls are encouraged to schedule a 30-minute exit interview with their career advisor to map out their job search strategy for the coming year toward the goal of post-graduate employment.

The purpose of this meeting is to ensure you're on track for optimizing your employment potential upon (if not even before) graduation and to answer any questions you may have of us. This is not a mandatory graduation requirement.

For dates and times available, please see the listings under the Events tab in Symplicity, which is where you'll RSVP and sign up for a time. Career Services staff will then contact you to request the necessary information and documents before your interview.

Possible Senate Debate to be Held at Hamline

Republican Senator Norm Coleman and Democratic Senate Candidate Al Franken have been invited to participate in a unique forum, scheduled for September 23, focused exclusively on issues affecting women. The forum will explore the candidates' positions on issues such as pay equity, Title IX, access to health care and early childhood education. The forum invitation was extended by a joint partnership of Minnesota Women Lawyers and the YWCA of Minneapolis. It has not yet been determined which additional candidates will be invited to participate in the forum. Additional candidates will be invited shortly after the September 9 primaries based on the established candidate criteria.

The event will be hosted by Hamline University School of Law and is supported by campus Democrat and Republican student organizations. It will be held at Sundin Hall on the University's campus and time will be given for audience questions.

The forum was precipitated by recent developments in the U.S. Senate regarding equal pay for women. In April 2008, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act failed to garner the 60 votes needed to move the bill forward for debate and vote.

"Issues of equal pay or equal work have a tremendous impact on women's lives. We are disappointed that the merits of any legislation related to fair pay were not debated by the U.S. Senate," MWL Public Policy Co-Chair Susan Burns stated. "However the absence of debate in the Senate on this issue presents an opportunity for our Minnesota Senate candidates to identify their positions on this issue and women's issues generally for voters. It is also an opportunity for each candidate to convince women voters that their needs will be addressed."

The Innocence Project of Minnesota (IPMN) mission is simple: striving to keep innocent people from being convicted and to free people imprisoned for crimes they didn't commit.

Please join us in celebrating the inaugural Dean's Dinner

of our new Law Dean, Donald M. Lewis

on November 18, 2008.

6:00pm-7:00pm Cocktails & Hors D'oeuvres

7:00pm-10:00pm Seated Dinner

This year our Keynote Speaker will be Charles J. Ogletree, Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and Founding Director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice. Professor Ogletree is a distinguished scholar in the area of U.S. and comparative justice systems, and frequently speaks on issues of criminal justice, race and the law, and legal education. We anticipate that Professor Ogletree-- a teacher and mentor of Sen. Barack Obama-- will also offer insights on the impact of the 2008 presidential election on the struggle for equal rights in America and abroad.
