In 1906, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Roscoe Pound delivered his well-noted address to the American Bar Association entitled The Causes of Popular Dissatisfaction with the Administration of Justice. The speech was a challenge to the American legal community to consider making reforms to improve the administration of justice. Despite the passage of 100 years, popular dissatisfaction with the justice system and the legal profession continues, and his insights are as highly relevant to the practice of law today as they were at the turn of the 20th century. In the context of Pound's address, this seminar will explore the public perception of the legal profession, the role of legal educators and the processes by which we administer justice in the 21st century.
