Diploma in Intellectual Property

StudentThe Diploma in Intellectual Property provides an opportunity for Hamline LL.M. students to develop an original work of individual research in intellectual property law or related fields, including topics on patent, trademark and copyright law, international treaties administered by WIPO or entered into pursuant to the TRIPS accord, as well as topical issues on piracy, e-commerce, media, arts, or indigenous knowledge and folklore.

Curriculum for LL.M. Diploma in Intellectual Property*
(24 credits required)

Required Courses:
American Legal System (3 credits)
International Law (3 credits)
Thesis Project (up to 6 credits)

Recommended:
Introduction to Intellecual Property (3 credits)
Patent Law (2 credits)
International Intellectual Property (2 credits)
Copyright Law and Related Rights (2 credits)

Electives:
Students may complete credit requirement by selecting from other courses of their choice from our curriculum as listed in the course catalog.

Field Experience:
Limited opportunities for a half semester, no credit, field placement

*This diploma may be completed with one semester in-residence at Hamline Law School if candidate has completed courses through the Dispute Resolution Institute in our international offerings; and completing the thesis project after returning to home country.
