How to Apply

LLM StudentQualifications for Admission

All applicants to the LL.M. Program for International Lawyers must have:

1. An LL.B. or equivalent degree with high academic standing from a recognized university outside the United States.

2. Potential students must demonstrate proficiency in English. Applicants whose primary language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL) and achieve a score of 600 paper-based; 250 computer based; or 100 Internet based. (Language programs are available to improve English proficiency.) The TOEFL Code for Hamline University School of Law is 6513.

3. Proof of sufficient financial support including an original bank letter and account statements demonstrating the ability to pay for expenses. Also, an affidavit of support is required if being sponsored financially by another party.

LLM StudentVISAS

All students must satisfy the United States government requirements for admission into the United States and for permission to remain in the Unites States for the duration of study for the LL.M. degree.

TUITION/EXPENSES

Tuition for the 2008–2009 academic year is $1,000 (U.S.) per credit. Students need to demonstrate ability to pay living expenses and the required healthcare coverage. Total cost is approximately$41,000 (U.S.) per year.(Cost includes meal plan and campus housing options, ranging from shared dormitory rooms to apartment-style housing.) Students who need financial assistance should explore opportunities for loans or assistance programs in their country. Limited scholarship opportunities are available and are awarded based on the academic and professional strength of the application file.

HOUSING

Hamline offers law and graduate students several options to meet the unique needs of mature residents involved in an intense academic pursuit. The majority of the rooms reserved for law and graduate students are single occupancy, providing privacy and a quiet environment. Cost for room and board ranges from approximately $7,000 to $12,000(U.S.) per year. Follow this link for more details on housing.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

All application materials are listed above. Submit all completed application materials to the Law School Programs Office, 1536 Hewitt Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104. You transcripts must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) and they will then release their evaluation report to Hamline University School of Law for a decision.
