Civil Rights Focus of Recent Program

The impact of the Minneapolis Civil Rights Department was the focus of a panel discussion at Hamline Law School on October 22. Four professionals from the department-- Toni Newborn, Taneeza Islam (HUSL Alum), Omar Mallick (HUSL), and Ronald Brandon II-- shared their perspective on the significance of their legal work surrounding civil rights and discrimination. They each emphasized the importance of establishing probable cause in all cases and remaining unbiased until sufficient evidence is found in a complaint. Panelists also encouraged current Hamline law students interested in the field to develop bonds with both professors and professionals in the field now, participate in clinics whenever possible, and to seek potential internships within the Civil Rights department.
