Panel Explores the Role of Citizen Lawyers

Staying passionate about legal work enables attorneys to “open a door wider on a more equitable basis,” said Hamline alumnus Jorge Saavedra ‘96, who most recently served as the chief legal officer at Centro Legal. Saavedra (far left) joined (from left) District Judge Donovan Frank '77, Hamline 2L student Jens Loberg, St. Paul City Attorney John Choi ‘95, and Dan Prokott '01 at the “Beyond the Pro Bono:  Citizen Lawyer,” CLE program on October 8 at Hamline. Panelists emphasized the strong role mentorship experiences have played in their own careers, ranging from tutoring programs and making personal connections to specific legal work. They also agreed that lawyers bear an ethical duty to serve as an advocate for others.
