Lawyer, pastor and professional mediator Thomas J. Porter was presented with the Journal of Law and Religion Exemplary Service Award on October 23 at the JLR fall symposium. The award was presented by Jose Roberto Juarez (photo left), chair of the JLR Board of Directors and Dean of Sturm College of Law. Thomas Porter has served continuously as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Law and Religion since its founding 25 years ago. During that time he served for an extended period as Chair of the Journal's Editorial Board. Dean Juarez noted that throughout his long service his commitment to the Journal has been manifested in many ways, most notably in his abiding hope for the mission of the Journal, sharing both his time and treasure to advance that mission.
"Our work as lawyers is to heal broken relationships," said Mr. Porter. "Through the Journal of Law and Religion I gradually learned that there were other ways to resolve conflicts and better ways of bringing people together....The ground of mediation is sacred ground that takes people into true healing of relationships."
