Why a career in law? Having a degree in philosophy uniquely situates a person to enter law school.
Why Hamline? Hamline
was the one school that made me feel like I not only would fit, but
that I also belonged. The admissions staff greeted me like an
old friend, and after starting school I came to realize that not only
was the staff friendly but the faculty was too. Ultimately, it
was the welcoming attitude of the faculty and staff.
Hamline's culture?
In a word: friendship. The students get along with each other,
the staff, and the faculty. You only need to look at the student
area to see that Hamline has a great social community. Competition
between students is positive, supportive and healthy.
How are you involved? I am involved with the Stonewall Alliance (GLBT student group), Latino Law Student Association, and am starting to show an interest in the Hamline Women's Legal Caucus.
Goals after law school?
Not really sure. I really enjoy Property, Wills and Trust, and
Contracts, which makes me think of estate planning; but I also really
enjoy health care law. More recently, I have been working with
a finance professor at another school doing academic research to see
about an academic career in an undergraduate institution after I graduate.
Last book read for pleasure? The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell
Favorite Twin Cities activity?
Shopping, there are a million places to shop from the Mall of America,
to Southdale Center, to Burnsville Center, to Eden Prairie Mall, to
Rosedale Center. You could shop non-stop for weeks!
How do you stay in shape?
I run some, and try to eat right. Not the easiest thing.
What's playing on your MP3 player now? Jennifer Lopez's new CD-Brave, tract "Hold It Don't Drop It"-GREAT new album
One thing you wish you had known before starting law school? It's not as hard as you think it is going to be, and it's not as easy as you think it is going to be. In law school you are one among the best and it is very difficult to be the best among the best.
How will you improve the world when you're a lawyer? The most efficient way I can: by improving myself.
